College Library

BNCP Central Library is an important part of our institute. It is an essential component of the institute's outstanding education and research mission. It is a place where students can place themselves comfortably with the books to seek / enhance information. It provides a friendly environment that enables learning and advancement of knowledge. It is well equipped with a lot of books and research journals that are aimed to promote conceptual clarity, understanding, innovation and discovery.

 

Objectives of Library

  1. To acquire, update, maintain and provide a qualitative and quantitative collection of books, periodicals and other instructional material of electronic resources to support the academic programme and educational objectives of the college.
  2. To provide quality services to faculty and students for achieving their curricular as well as co-curricular goals, with the help of technology, but not as a substitute for personal service.
  3. To inculcate reading habit among students and to encourage collaborative efforts among library staff and students to maximum utilization of library resources.

The mission of our Central Library is to induce and encourage our students to enhance learning through reading books and journals. This will foster creation of better scientific minds equipped with new knowledge through acquisition, organization and dissemination of knowledge resources.

The Central Library has an area of 1800 sq ft with comfortable air conditioned reading and reference sections. It is well stocked with books and journals (both national and international). The library has subscription of Science Direct- Elsevier e-journals.

Library is situated at ground floor, and is entirely air-conditioned supported with modern technologies like WiFi and closed circuit television cameras. Library users can access Online Databases through WiFi. Library shares its resources under inter library loan with other libraries of SVKM. Library in-house functions are automated through KOHA software, which assists users to locate reading material, by title, author and subject queries. Online Catalogue of books is available through the Union Web OPAC.

Library caters to a clientele of students, faculty and staff members with its profound collection of books, journals, CDs and other resource material. An ‘Open Access’ lends a hand to the users to pick a book of their choice.

Suggestion box: Students can drop their suggestions for books and any other recommendations.

Rules for using Library by Students

  • Talking loudly, discussing, loitering, eating, smoking, spitting, using mobile, shifting chairs, reserving chairs, scratching on furniture is strictly prohibited.
  • All persons using the Library are subject to the discipline of the college.
  • Keep silence and behave in decent manner and maintain discipline.
  • For entry inside the counter the students should keep all belongings outside and are allowed to carry only their library card and identity card.
  • Handle the books carefully and do not mutilate them in any way while using.
  • The books issued for home reading from library must be returned on due date that is put up on date slip behind the book .  If the same book is required again for the next week, student must renew the book on the due date or is subjected to pay fine of Rs. 5/- per day per book.
  • In case of loss of a library book the Librarian should be contacted immediately. The lost book should be replaced immediately by whoever lost it. The cost of the book will be recovered only if the book is not available in the market.
  • Other material like syllabus copy, question papers, periodicals, CDs, books for current reading, etc. issued from the counter are expected to be returned on the same day.
  • The library reading room furniture should be used in proper manner. Do not write or stick anything on the tables or chairs or any furniture.
  • All the students are required to strictly adhered to the above rules and cooperate with the library staff for smooth functioning of the library. 

 

Library Services

  • Home Lending: Students can borrow one book at a time against their library card for the period of one week. Books can be re issued in case there is no demand for that particular book.
  • Reference Service: Students can use reference books available in the library, such as pharmacopoeias, dictionaries etc.
  • Internet Access: Students can get access to the Internet in the library. There are eight computers kept only for students.
  • OPAC and Web OPAC: Students can browse library collection through Online Public Access Catalogue library.svkm.ac.in
  • Display of New Arrivals: New books are displayed physically in the display cupboard in the library.
  • Orientation: Library orientation is given to First year B.Pharm and M.Pharm students in the beginning of academic session in the classroom using power point presentation.
  • Inter Library Loan: Students can put in requisition to the Librarian to borrow books from all SVKM /NMIMS institutions for limited period of time.
  • Bibliography: List of books subject wise is available for reference.
  • Newspaper clippings: Students can see current news/developments on library notice board for their reference.
  • Student Portal :  It is a Learning Management System created by in-house team of SVKM where students can view course material uploaded by Faculty and also can view syllabus, question papers (Periodic Test, Mid Term and University) and institutional Repository. ( portal.svkm.ac.in)

Glimpses of library activities

Know your library workshop

Know your Library session is organised for B. Pharm and M. Pharm students. Syllabus books, M. Pharm thesis, seminar reports, hard copy journals are given to students. Librarian explains various E-resources and usage of books.

Our computer laboratory is well equipped with about 21 computers with internet access available to all students. The lab is comfortably designed to seat about 25 people with air conditioning. It is available for use to students for their regular computer practical sessions as well as for preparation of seminar / symposia presentations.

Laboratories

The college has state of the art laboratories providing facilities for conducting various experiments in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Quality Assurance, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Microbiology / Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Analysis. A Quality Improvement Program (QIP) is held regularly for the Laboratory assistants, faculty & M. Pharm. students to train tem in Good Laboratory Practices and Fire Safety Measures. An Emergency Rescue Team (ERT) is in place to tackle any kind of fire emergency. This team is trained regularly on the use of fire extinguishers along with fire safety mock drills. We have well designed state-of-the-art Laboratories. They are equipped with the necessary infrastructure in terms of equipment, apparatus and chemicals. They are of adequate size to allow easy and safe working for the students.

 

Classrooms

The college have ICT enabled classrooms of adequate size and comfortable seating arrangement with CCTV surveillance. All are air conditioned and equipped with facilities for delivery of lectures using SmartBoard.

 

Central Instrumentation Facility

The Central Instrument Laboratory (CIL) is air-conditioned, well-equipped with latest modern analytical equipment and instruments like HPLC, Particle size analyser (Nano), UV-Vis Spectrophotometers, Lyophilizer, Deep freezer (-30°C & -80°C), Ultratrurax homogenizer, Brookfield viscometer, Photographic microscope, Probe sonicator, Microplate reader, Fluorescence microscope, FTIR/ ATR, Data acquisition system, Lab Homogenizer and several other instruments to facilitate research activities in the college.

Pilot Plant

A Pilot Plant is a pre-commercial production lab that employs new production technology and/or produces small volumes of new technology-based products, mainly for the purpose of learning about the new technology.  It is well equipped with latest pharmaceutical equipments/ machines like High Pressure Homogenizer, All Purpose Equipment, Lab. Spray Dryer, analytical Precision Weighing Balance, Moisture Balance, Tablet Compression Machine, Hot Air Oven (tray Dryer), Coating Machine, Rapid Mixer Granulator, Fluid Bed Processer, Bottle Washing & Brushing Machine, Double Cone blender, Multi Mill, Extruder & Spheronizer, Reynolds Apparatus, Bernoulli’s Appratus, Venturi/Orifice Meter, Filter Press, Vacuum filter Press, Mini Roll Compactor.

The cell culture laboratory at SVKM’s Dr. Bhanuben Nanavati College of Pharmacy's cell culture laboratory has the capacity for routine cell culture (feeding and subculturing) and maintenance (cryo preservation of cell cultures). Faculty members and research students (P.G. and Ph.D.) have successfully used the facility to conduct cell culture-based studies on a variety of cells, including Glioblastoma cells (C6), Cervical Cancer cells (HeLa), Murine macrophages (RAW 264.7), Mouse fibroblast- (L929), Human Pancreatic Cancerous cell lines- (MiaPaCa), Lung Cancer- (A549), Breast Cancer- (MCF (AW8507). The laboratory is equipped with cell storage facilities like CO2 incubator, -20°C Freezer, -80°C Freezer & Liquid Nitrogen (-140°C). Cell lines are maintained for in vitro screening of both natural and synthetic compounds for various pharmacological activities such as, cytotoxicity testing, cyto-compatibility studies and screening of drug candidates for anticancer activities.

Small-Animal Facility at CPCSEA Approved Lab

The college has state-of-art Animal House facility registered by CPCSEA, Government of Inida. It provides pre-clinical testing in conformity with national and international regulatory guidelines. The animal house facilitates the availability of healthy animals for UG and PG research projects and for research/outsourced testing. An incinerator is also available at the animal house.

 

Medicinal Plant Garden

“SATVA VATIKA” the medicinal plant garden  covers an area of 71.35 square feet. It is very well-organized terrace garden having around 46 potted plants.  The plants include herbs, shrubs and trees having  culinary, medicinal and  cosmetics applications. e.g. Aloe vera, ashoka, cinnamon, amla, bael, eucalyptus, datura, brahmi, black pepper and baheda.  Establishment of the medicinal garden has helped in generating awareness  about medicinal plants and their applications amoung the students.

The college has museums which displays various dosage forms, cosmetic formulations, human anatomy models, apparatus/ glasswares required in chemistry laboratory and various polymers used in formulation dvelopment in order to give an practical insight to the theory concepts.

The college has a ramp, chair, wash room and other necessary facility for hassle free movement of physically handicapped students.

Recreation facilities: The College has provided modern sports facility, which includes a sports room for indoor sports like Table Tennis, Carrom, and Chess etc.

 

 

Auditorium/ Seminar Hall:  The College has two seminar halls with a seating capacity of 110 delegates and is used for seminar, panel discussions and hosting cultural events.

 

Conference Room: The College has a conference room located in administrative office with luxurious interiors of the air-conditioned and spacious well-equippped with corporate standards.

 

Girls and Boys Common Room: The College has common rooms for boys and girls separately.
